Expressing Emotions Through Dance
The Youtube lesson from the CODE website on expressing emotions through dance is a great lesson that can be used in the classroom. Showing emotions using your body movements and your facial expressions is an important part of any dance activity.
The facial expressions allow the audience to connect with how the performer is feeling and with the theme of the dance. The theme in this video is inclusion and exclusion which is a great theme to focus on in a classroom at any age. Students start by brainstorming ideas related to inclusion and exclusion and connected these ideas to the book they are reading. The students came up with emotions and movements they can use to express those emotions. They also focus on why it is important to show emotion through their movements and their facial expressions to get that theme across to their audience.
This is a great lesson plan that I will use in my classroom.
